Robert DeWeese

Bob DeWeese was a pioneering Montana modernist painter, printmaker, and educator born in Ohio in 1920. After serving in World War II and earning his MFA from the University of Iowa, he moved to Bozeman in 1949 to teach at Montana State University, where he influenced generations of artists. Known for expressive modernist works in painting and printmaking, DeWeese became a central figure in Montana’s contemporary art movement before his death in 1990.
